I never had Sri Lankan food. When I knew The Coconut Tree is THE place while having a good rating, I wanted to try.

Curry Boy did warn me before, ‘Sri Lankan food is hot!’ He is correct! Some of them had sharp and hot taste, but cooked beautifully with spices, made you want to eat more and more.

I especially liked the Sri Lanka national dish: kottu, it’s a meat curry dish combined with chopped roti. Those roti provided a chewy texture and clung on beautifully with spicy sauce and tender beef brisket. Just a brilliant dish!

Another classic street food we recommend is hopper. It’s like a pancake with 3 different fillings – coconut sambol, caramelised onion and salsa. We wrapped it up and ate everything together so that the spiciness can be mild down.

And if you’re looking for a milder curry, try the pineapple curry! That day we also had the seasonal special dish mango curry(amba maluwa), both of them were sweet curry.

All dishes were in tapas size and meant to be share. Although I still think it’s little over priced given the relatively small quantity, or maybe because we cook curry often, this Sri Lankan restaurant do offers deep and complicated spicy flavours that was unforgettable! Give it a try!
