Note: The Cheese Platter is permanently closed. But the former head chef has opened his own restaurant, White Truffle, in Nailsea. I had the blog post here.
Spot on starters Sunday Roast with outstanding service.
The Cheese Platter, as the name tells, they specialised in British made cheese and cooked it in different dishes.
For example, their Sunday Roast’s starters, all of them cooperated well with cheeses, and we especially like the beetroot and gin-cured salmon with whipped soft goats cheese sourcing from South England. Never had cured fish with cheese before, a nice surprise. Another starter – arancini, stuffed with beef and blue cheese, offering intensely rich flavour but not oily nor heavy.
With such high quality starters, the roast seemed slightly low, as the pork belly was chewy, what a shame.
But I like they offer great varieties of desserts plus cheese platter. We picked the summer Eton mess, a traditional British dessert served with strawberries, meringue and whipped cream. Crispy and light, mildly sweet.
The Sunday Roast serves as set menu, 2 courses £25, 3 courses £30, kids portion half price. They also have cheese fondue every Thursday. You can make reservation online.
