This Italian restaurant earned more than 1,100 reviews with an average 4,8 high score on Google, which made me long want to try it. So before our first musical play, LionKing at the Bristol Hippodrome, we managed to get a table on Friday evening, 17:30pm, and we were warmly greeted by the staff.

The menu is quite simple, it consisted of a few starters and desserts, 10 pasta and 20 pizza to choose from. They also offer 2 types of calzone – a folded pizza like a big dumpling.

We ordered a pasta – Meat Ragu £14.9, a pizza called Sotto Sotto £13.9 and a Tiramisu £5.5.

Surprised me, the food came real quickly, like 5 mins after ordering. As mentioned on the menu, all pasta is freshly made Tagliatelle and one portion weighs about 140 g. Maybe that’s why it came in lightning time. But sadly, I found the meat ragu sauce was lacking the deep flavour I desired, and quantity was little less. It was like a few tablespoons of sauce with pasta only, without any green colour, like parsley, which would usually be used as a garnish.

Luckily, the Sotto Sotto pizza was great. It had mozzarella, porcini mushroom, a 24 month matured Grana Padano cheese on it. It came with an irresistible aroma, nicely charred and the edge was very chewy, in a good way. I couldn’t help myself but compare it with another pizzeria – Pizzarova, which is just a few steps away. Both were quite worth trying, while Moltobuono!59 pizza’s chewiness was unbeatable, as Pizzarova’s one was getting hard at the end.

And for the dessert, tiramisu, it was in a big size, but served in a plastic container, which made me think it wasn’t homemade. Yet, it was tasty, light and moist, so homemade or not was not a big problem for me. Remove that plastic! It surely can give you a nicer presentation and be friendlier to the environment.

From my experience, I can guess they win the customer’s heart with warm service and really delicious pizza. But it’s not a place where you can or will sit for a long time (we finished in 45 mins) and chit-chat. Service was a little rushed for me, but I also understand it’s all down to business. Quick pizza, quick pasta, quick service.
