When I make Indian curry, I always want to make this easy naan as well – quick, hardly knead, and no oven is required! Absolutely beginner-friendly.

This naan recipe comes from Jamie Oliver. It is very fragrant and soft, only needs to be lightly kneaded for 5 minutes. Hand shaping like making pizza. No oven is required also, just a pan.

By adding ghee, the dough will not be sticky when kneading, and comes very soft when baked. I think melted butter will work too.

Freshly made naan with Indian aloo gobi curry is always perfect.

It takes some time to proof the dough but it’s worth! The naan is soft and a little chewy, perfect with any curry!

Ingredients

  • 150 g bread flour
  • 50 g whole wheat flour
  • 3 g yeast
  • ¾ tbsp honey
  • 100 g warm water
  • 5 g salt
  • 36 g ghee

How to Make

  1. Mix the yeast, honey and warm water in a bowl.
  2. Mix all the flour together and dig a hole in the middle. Pour in step 1 liquids, ghee and salt. Slightly knead the dough for about 5 mins until it’s smooth on the surface.
  3. Cover and let it proof to 2 times bigger.
  4. Divide the dough into 4 parts.
  5. Heat up a dry frying pan. Stretch a dough into a naan shape, around 1 ½ cm thickness.
  6. Cook until both sides turned golden. You may want to keep it warm in an oven. Repeat with the remaining naan. Serve with dry curry.
