If you are looking for a Düsseldorf hiking route, I have a suggestion for you—an easy hike filled with sunshine, blue sky, yellow flowers and loads of green.

It has been raining a lot throughout May. Finally, the sun is out! I immediately searched for a good route and planned to go for a small hike.

This time, we hiked from Gerresheim to Rotthäuser Bachtal. It was easy to walk along the way, and you can enjoy the scenery of farmland, wheat fields and grasslands. It is beautiful!

There are no mountains near Düsseldorf, and there are quite a few plains and forests, so if you are going hiking, you don’t need hiking shoes, you can start with light clothing with a pair of sneakers. And for this hiking route, there are some sections without any shade, so a hat and sun protection are required.

Blick übers Tal – Rotthäuser Bachtal Loop from Düsseldorf

On Sunday, we took a bus from the city centre to Gerresheim Rathaus, only about 20 minutes, and then walked a little over 10 minutes into nature. The whole journey is about 8.7 kilometers.

There are small hills at first, but it is very short. Although there are ups and downs along the way, it is not like climbing a mountain. For me, a leisure hiker, I think it was very easy. If it rained the day before, there will be wet mud on some sections of the road, so you need to pay attention.

We walked along a wide and open view.
No human at all, just nature and sheep.

Some people commented that this hiking route is a hidden gem, and indeed, we met very few people on the road. Instead, we saw many sheep and cattle grazing freely, and felt very calm and relaxing.

Because it is not walking in the forest, the scenery is very open. Blue sky, white clouds, green grass, yellow flowers.

Lovely spring colour.

I still remember that when I was hiking in Japan, I usually had to get up very early, because the hiking destination was usually far away from Tokyo, and the frequency of the shuttle bus was very sparse, so I had to go out early in the morning. Especially during the beautiful autumn season, there will be queues of red leaves hunters on the mountain, and there will be traffic jams when hiking!

Luckily, there are less populated in Germany, so there is no problem of congestion. And nature is very close to the city center, so you can take a walk anytime, anywhere. Especially on Sundays when all the shops are closed, it is also a good Sunday program to go to the countryside for two or three hours to breathe the fresh air!
