Chickpea and tuna patties with ketchup.

I pre-soaked and pressure cooked 200 g (dried) chickpeas (you can also use canned chickpeas) . Part of it made into an Indian dish Malai Kofta, and I cooked the rest into this tuna patties.

This kind of patties are usually cooked with potato, which I find less nutritious. Chickpea provides us rich protein which potato cannot : say chickpea has 19 g protein per 100 g, while potato only have 2 g of protein.

Additionally, using dried chickpea won’t cost you much. For example, a bag of 2 kg chickpea only costs around £3.5.

Ingredients

Makes 6 pcs(around 6cm Ø )

  • 200 g cooked chickpea
  • ½ tin of tuna (90 g)
  • ½ small onion, diced

  • ½ tbsp starch
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder

How to Make Chickpea and Tuna Patties

  1. If using dry chickpea, you need to soak it in advance for at least 8 hours, then cook it in salted water with a pressure cooker, around 10 mins. If chickpea didn’t get soak, you might need more cooking time, like 50 mins. If using canned chickpea, then no effort is required, super convenient!
  2. Blitz the cooked chickpea and all other ingredients together, not too fine.
  3. Form the mixture into 6 patties.
  4. Heat some oil in a frying pan and fry the patties until golden. Dipping sauce can be ketchup or yogurt herbs dressing.
