Baba Ganoush Kitchen is Bristol #1 cheap eat. I wonder how can they maintain a 4.9 Google rating for over 1000 reviews? After our delicious and satisfying lunch there, I think their formula for succeeding is quite simple – food, price, hospitality, all great.

Colourful paintings on the building. You can hardly miss it.

Their menu is simple. Wraps, salad or mezze.

Curry Boy and I had a falafel wrap and a Jerusalem mezze to share.

Jerusalem mezze £13.95 – Not only falafels, but also spicy potatoes, fresh salad, the signature baba ganoush, dolmas and 2 warm flatbreads.

Quite a generous portion that 2 people can share.

From this mezze I learned 3 things.

  1. Falafel can be made of broad beans, chickpeas, or both, depending on the region. I assume this one has broad beans inside since it tastes different than the chickpea falafel I’ve made before.
  2. Baba ganoush is a dipping sauce(or spread) mainly made of roasted aubergine, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and salt. It is similar to hummus, but uses aubergine instead.
  3. Dolmas (dolmadoes) is a part of Turkish cuisine made from rice/meat/vegetables stuffed with grape leaves(it can be cabbage or other leaves). It’s tart and creamy inside, perfect with flatbread.
These little dolmas are new to me.

Falafel wraps (Medium) £5.5 – The filling is similar to the mezze but you won’t find dolmas inside. I like those spicy pickles as well! Medium size is perfect for a girl’s lunch, but many guys ordered large.

Orange and Carrot Juice £3 – We saw a big boys group have this orange drink for everyone, so we liked to have the same, and it didn’t disappoint! It’s freshly made, slightly sweet, natural and all good! Don’t miss it!

No wonder why I love Middle East food more and more. It has a lot of vegetarian options, less dairy, humble and hearty. Nothing sophisticated or presentation-focused. Straight forward and tasty.
