I’ve bookmarked Grano for months. Yesterday I finally got a chance to visit for a lovely afternoon.
For lunch, I usually want nothing fancy. Perhaps a burger, or a plate of good pasta in a cafe or restaurant. That’s why I went to Grano. But first, let me be honest, I was attracted by the single digit price. £5-6 a lunch in a proper Italian restaurant?
Their lunch options were decent – main dishes of the day (lasagna and 2 pastas in my case), pizza slices, focaccia sandwiches, farinata wraps and some desserts.
Without much hesitation, I went for the lasagna, something hot and hearty.
The lasagna was rich and tasty. I like the size they offered, satisfying while also leaving me an option to enjoy a small dessert. The salad next to it was very refreshing, in which the crunchiness of the fried corn was a highlight. I like these small details that the chef paid attention to.
Curry Boy tried the roasted pepper focaccia sandwiches.
It looks like, well, just an ordinary sandwich, but actually it’s a thick and crunchy focaccia! On the menu, it clearly mentioned ‘6.5″ x 5″, Roman style, thick and crunchy’.
Before trying this, I thought all the focaccia was the soft type. But now I know, a Roman-style focaccia could be thinner and crispier than the traditional one, and it could be shaped into squares or rectangles.
Many customers ordered the other focaccia, with salami, rocket and pomegranate. It looked really great!
We designed some special space in our tummy for the dessert – panna cotta. It was nice and smooth, not too sweet or milky. But personally, I’d prefer tiramisu next time.
Overall, I was very happy with this lunch as its food reached my expectations and their service left nothing to complain about.
But then I looked at their dinner menu. Something is missing. They offer 4 pasta dishes and some small plates. Perhaps most of them are cold dishes except the pasta? It would motivate me to go for dinner if they have some meat or seafood options.
Anyway, Grano offers a lunch menu on Saturday too! Why not give it a try if you’re looking for a good restaurant in Bristol?
